Doctors or GPs (General Practitioners) give medical information and health care to their local communities - offering advice, diagnosing and treating diseases, physical conditions and illnesses for all members of the family. Doctors work from surgeries and health centres, usually with a team of nurses, health visitors and midwives, as well as other health professionals including physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
If a doctor cannot deal with your problem, they will refer you to a hospital for tests, treatment or to see a consultant with specialist knowledge.
